Week 1: Introduction

On the  initiative of  the Groupe Scolaire Al-Falah Taza,  and in collaboration with Taza Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training,  the school's Environment Club, hereby, expresses its commitment to the Climate Action Project.

 Groupe Scolaire Al-Falah Taza students  have bought themselves sometime to go back to their notes, and elaborate on them and come to tell us, in three different languages, what is  causing local and  global climate change, in their opinion.

At the first week, student are expected at the end of the week to know what is responsible for the changing climate at their home country Nigeria and the rest of the globe.

During week one, we engaged our students in  group discussions to identify the causes of climate change in the world. They worked in groups doing a research on the causes of climate change. We also discussed what climate is and the differences between climate and weather. At the end of the week, students were able to create a video on the causes of climate change.

The students of AMAISB researched about different factors that are effecting our environment and causing the climate  change. 

Students ask their pioneer how seasons change in Bangladesh? In our country, we have a six seasons but nowadays the seasons has been changed. The students can know that only two seasons mainly observed such as summer and winter. Why it is? In Bangladesh plastic disposal and Industries wastage, black-smoke of vehicles are enormous threads for climate change.

SCHOLARS PUBLIC SCHOOLS -  Shout Out

The  students of Scholars Public School   produce a Shout Out around that we have stepped forward to fight back the burning issue Climatic Change by indulging in the Global project. This projects aims towards Common Goal and Mission for  a Clean  and Green Life on Earth. 

The students researched and peer mentored to understand the difference between climate and weather. They referred to newspaper, online websites and other sources and came to the conclusion that the climate of Earth is changing drastically and unfortunately the only culprit for this disaster is us, HUMAN BEINGS.

I am working in collaboration  with my students and we are committed to improve our environment. We have observed that the single use plastic is a major threat to the environment. So we are in a mission to stop using the single use plastic. 

Primary school students from Grade 4 and 5, attempted a listening engagement- Difference between Weather and Climate,&nbsp; Watched various videos about Climate change,&nbsp; Read a comprehension passage shared their perspective through Visible thinking Routine, Read a Story related to it and shared their understanding.&nbsp; Students also created poster to spread Awareness,&nbsp; one of the student propagated plants to distribute in his neighborhood at his home.&nbsp;</p>

Students check in their vicinity the probable reasons for the increasing  pollution and what leads to Climate Change in India.

Students have been explained about the "Climate Change Project" and have been given opportunities & platforms to understand and present on "What is Climate change and its cause." The presentations done are in the ppt format and group discussions happened using the ppt.

In our world Human have a very intelligent brain .....so all the animals human's are very intelligent because of they use their brain....... but now a days Humans destroy our planet and our green Energy........ example - cut the trees , global warming, waste water , air pollution, water pollution, all types of pollution....................i am a teacher and i believe that i am a Changemaker because of i have power of my student .......... in the school days i tell then all the good point of our life and our planet so they know what is right and wrong ........ they know their duty, responsibility to protect our planet

Teaching About the Natural World

The lessons that nature has to teach us are never ending. Being immersed in the natural flow of plant and animal life cycles, weather patterns, seasons, and the intricate dance connecting everything helps us find our own balance in the flow of life.

It’s not surprising that children who play outside are healthier mentally, emotionally, and physically. Human beings have spent nearly the entirety of our existence outside. Our connection to the natural world is so profound that when we are deprived of it, it’s no surprise that we don’t fare well. More and more adults are recognizing the importance of outdoor play for children, and the value of unstructured nature-based explorations. In addition to this shift to include nature-based activity or “green exercise,” teachers and parents, environmentalists, and policy-makers have begun to realize that outdoor play and nature-based learning leads children toward a sense of environmental stewardship. 

Simply put, connecting with nature means appreciating nature and wanting to take care of it.

Getting children back to nature is easy, fun, and beneficial in every way. And it seems
the simpler the outdoor play, the better. Letting children loose with nothing more than a stick and a pile of dirt is about the nicest thing we can do for them.

I am a primary teacher. My school is in very rural areas. In my areas many people do farming . So it's green zone. But now a days the climatic change because of global warming so the people can't get enough money. So they move to the city life and in the city life we know our lifestyle ..... We get so many things from nature but we can't get back to the nature nature gives us oxygen and we gives us to nature carbon dioxide but we cut the trees so that the water level is low and we can't do it anything so my aim is student know the reason behind the climate change students know what is the main reason too less water and this is the age that they know what is wrong and what is right so when they and when they will grow up that time the tendency is change ....

Students learnt about climate change and its causes. First , they all had to brainstorm if climate change was happening or not.  After that they had some thinking time to feel any changes in their climate. Once they all agreed on the premise that climate change was happening, then they got on reading some articles in pairs and from various reliable sources of information like Natgeo, NASA and UN articles to read about  the causes. Some of the causes discussed in class were : Greenhouse effect,the increase in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere has caused the earth's temperature to rise, observations like melting of polar ice caps, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, glaciers , due to the increase in global temperature . Extreme events and acidic level rise in oceans due to absorbption of CO2 by oceans. We'll continue our discussion on carbon footprint in our everday lives this week.

In the first week, students talked to their families, teachers, and friends about climate change in the world, then they searched online on the internet and read articles.
Students shared information from their research, discussed as groups about the importance of meeting the challenge of climate change and began brainstorming for solutions.

I gave lectures to all the students of the school and teachers about the importance of the sustainable development goals as i explained the importance of caring for the environment in terms of planting trees and the multiplication of plants in public sectors

For the first week of the Cimate Action project we wanted to find out the differences between climate and weather.The students wanted to show the value of the environment and drew pictures.Then we findout how the earth's climate is changing and came up with the causes of climate changes.They realised human activities are the main cause for the changes in the climate.

Boys played a game with a teacher, interacting about climate change and it's causes. It was really an awesome day 

Following the "Green School Year" environmental project, on October 13, 2019, the fundraising event, "VAS GREEN DAY RUN" was organized at Sala Mega Campus in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City with 2.500 participants including managers, staffs, teachers, students and their families. This is the first running competition that Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) has organized with the purpose of raising funds to plant mangrove forest in Can Gio district, in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to creating a sports playground for the VAS community, each runner who participates in the event will contribute one tree to the forest and hopefully, there will be a forest with at least 2,000 trees in Can Gio grown by VAS to provide more clean air to Ho Chi Minh City through this project. But the result of today’s event is that 2.500 trees were contributed to Can Gio Mangrove Forest. And still counting...

In Week 1, HNTL students studied the differences between Weather and Climate, why we need to study climate and how to measure the ancient climate. They also explored the causes of climate change.

Students had one week to prepare at home the assignment given to them by the project leader. Each group studied a small part of the content in Week 1.

Parents also joined the project. They took the children to the library to study the project and helped them practice at home.

The Amazone forest is burned down by some Brazilians.

     This week we discussed the Sustainable Development Goals and the dreenhouse affect, which is one the causes of climate change.

We didn't have so much time, unluckily. As a matter of fact, we could work on the project only for three classes so the students decided to make a video in which they explain how they are working and what thet have found out so far. Global warming and climate change encompasses not only rising average temperature. It's also extrem weather events, shifting populations and habitats, rising seas and other impacts

During the meeting within the first week we discussed the causes for climate change. Firstly students said what came to their minds, what they already know. Then we started looking for some information online. One students draw the process how acid rain work what happens. The students also mentioned some situations out of their background.

We talked about causes of climate changes: greenhouse gases, pollution, deforestration, plastic dangers etc.  We prepared posters,  a noticeboard, we connected on Skype to see dangers of plastic pollution to plants and animals.

Students made a guided visit with the ICNF Technician to all the stations they had to work on for our final product: The Qr Codes linked to Our Website where their research works are to be used by all visitors of the Park. 

The class worked in small groups. There were moments of individual work but mostly group work. The students played Plickers to express their ideas, played a puzzle to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals, made brainstorm about the causes, made some research online and at the School Library. They used the Padlet and Glogster tools to compile their ideas. Students were presented to a new digital tool, Sway. After some exploration the group made a presentation . At the end students reflected about their work and learnt from their experiences. There were 4 subjects involved: English, Geography,  Sciences and Maths.

Hi! My students are older now, they discussed a lot about climate change. They told that plastic, pollution of the air, of the ocean are real problems. We must to do something! Together we can make something good for our planet, but it `s important to begin.

Climate change is any significant long-term change in the expected patterns of average weather of a region (or the whole Earth) over a significant period of time. Climate change is about abnormal variations to the climate, and the effects of these variations on other parts of the Earth.

We started the Climate Action project on October 1st. Our preschool group have 30 boys and girls age from 3 to 5. Yesterday and today we talked about what is clime and what is weather? Children where exploring, discussing, brainstorm and creative. They gave random answers and drew them all (simbols). Tomorrow we will talk and discuss what is causing climate changes.

Week 1 activities.

7th grade students have been conducting their own little research about causes of Climate Change. They made a video where they talked in English and Serbian about their findings and also they drew illustrations about this problem.

Here are their conclusions:

Global warming is a slow and steady rise in Earth's surface temperature. According to the IPC*, human-caused global warming is driving climate changes impacting both human and natural system on all continents and across the oceans. Human-caused global warming results from the increased use of fossil fuels in transportation, manufacturing and communications.

*The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.

One of the girls wrote a fanny poem about climate change in the autumn in Serbian language. Then she made an effort to translate the poem so that it could be understood in English.

EXPLORATION

  This month our theme is named CHANGES and we started our week by introducing children of my group about Climate changes with aims:

•  to teach children to be responsible future citizens,
• to respect nature around us and our planet Earth.

  We talked about what weather and climate are (https://climatekids.nasa.gov/climate-change-meaning/), (https://climatekids.nasa.gov/climate-change-evidence/ ), discussed about newly gained experiences.

  We tried to:

• determine concepts of weather and climate,
• understand the difference between weather and climate,  
• talk about how we know that weather and climate are changing,
• tryed to answer what  is causing those changes, what evidence we are seeing, feeling, and what we can do to slow it down.

  We talked about weather:

• can it change during the same day,
• can we feel with our senses if weather is changing,
• is it possible that tomorrow will be the same weather as it is today,
• how do we know if the weather changed....

We made agreement to measure weather by observing it everyday and taking notes of that activity. And to follow weather forecasts on tv.

  Children said that weather is… when its raining outside and we are holding umbrellas; when day, night, sun and moon, hot and cold day are changing; when there is snow and we can make snowman; when sun, storms and heavy clouds arrive…

  We talked about climate:

• can it change every day like maybe weather,
• how can we know if the climate is changing…

  Children said that climate is when strong winds are blowing and they twist; when ice melts where polar bears live (a boy watched educational film with his parents and was well informed due to rest of the group)

  After an introduction children worked in small groups according to their interests. They explored, communicated, collaborated and created drawings of what they found outside, made collage, predicted weather for next day, made a book of drawings, dramatization, ilustrated what is causing weather and  climate changes and what we can do to slow it down. At the end we made exibition of our drawings.

In the first week we discussed with children about climate and weather, and differences between climate and weather. Children were playing with seasons puzzles and we were discussing about changed characteristic of seasons.

Than we were discussing about causes of these changings and we concluded that causes are transportation, factories, mobile phones, deforestation...

We read story : "Factory of air" and children created various drawings.

Also, children worked in small groups and presented their work about climate changes knowledge.

We concluded that people caused all these changes.

Kindergarten Teacher Nenad Temunović and his group of children called "Butterflies" begin a journey to learn about the causes  climate change.

Students think, talk, discuss and discover what are the causes of the Climate Change.

Finally they decide to write their messages on a " Red" paper as a symbol of EMERGENCY!!

It's tough to handle in just a week all the thinking of Students about Climate Change but after hard brainstormings to explore the real causes of such a climate crisis...here, the awesome results :

Year 6 Climate Action Project

This is a project that has been done with year 6 students.

We had a class discussion about climate and weather and what the students thought was causing climate change.

The students then created a PowerPoint slide about what was causing Climate change.

We discussed the difference between the words "the weather" and "the climate" and reasons of climate changing in our country and in the world! 

What is causing Climate change? That is the question students are discussing today. We watch video, discuss, explore how weather and climate can be measured, argue, make a definition for climate change, draw pictures, create posters and more. So, it's great a start of the project!

Students watch VR videe about ecological changes, discussed them. Discovered alternative kinds of energy and made prototypes.

This is the result of the research work of the students about the situation in our city. It is typical for a lot of others cities in Ukraine.

Students discussed climate change.

We focused our attention on Greenhouse effect and how it is connected with Global Warming. After discussion we did an experiment.

Pupils of Rivne School 8 (Ukraine) decided to find out which factors cause global warming.

During the lesson we discussed about climate changes with pupils and made project to show this problems to our participants.

The students of Vinnytsia Gymnasium # 6 from Ukraine had a great start to week 1 of the Climate Action Project.

We focused on the causes for climate change globally and locally in Ukraine. We learned about the climate changes using NASA, UN and Royal Society websites and developed the posters summarizing our research.

We are happy to be in a great team of world change agents that currently includes 814 schools in 98 countries involving 92,731 students.

Week 1 at Brookmede PS

We started with an anticipatory worksheet to see what they expect from this project and to get diagnostic and formative assessment data for their work. They will complete the back when the project is done in our class.

We then discussed weather/climate/LOWERN factors, and students explored the overall questions of what is weather, climate, and climate change.

The Grade 10 English class from Dunnville Secondary School examined "What is causing Climate Change?" and then answered the question of "Is it the same Locally as it is Globally?"

The class came up with the following items for causing Climate Change:

-the burning and retrieving of fossil fuels/using non-renewable energy sources
-factory/transportation emissions
-methan emissions from animals
-clear cutting of forests/rainforests
-greenhouse gases
-politicians ignoring facts
-tobacco use
-purposely set forest fires
ABOVE ALL HUMANS!!!!!

Locally, the class decided that our community is contributing to climate change via the 2 factories in our community, the increase of water and road traffic in the summer and a number of greenhouses growing flowers all year round.  We are not, however, retrieving fossil fuels from the earth in our community.

Climate change causes, effects in Canada, and what might happen in the future.

The Grade 7 students at All Saints determined the causes that we contribute to climate change. 

In our #1MinutewithSDGs Campaign by SDGs For Children community, Shaurya Chakravarty from India explains his understanding of SDG13- Climate Action.  He believes in 'Action Now' and share how he is contributing to save our planet Earth and supports 'Climate Action'.

Students have been thinking about climate change this past month.  They have taken action by drawing messages on the sidewalks outside our school and many took part in the Climate March that happened in Ottawa, on Sept. 27th.

For this Climate Action Project, we started by taking a look at the question of what peoples beliefs are around climate change.   Considering the views of both sides of the climate change "debate" - students lined up and had paired conversations using the statements that they have heard from those who believe in climate change, and those that refute it.  By doing this, we were able to then discuss the things people say that run counter to the knowledge that climate change is real. 

We created this information video in the style of Common Craft Instructional Videos to show our learning about climate change during week 1 of the Climate Action Project. This was a whole class collaboration with each student contributing illustrations and narration. Enjoy!

6th grade students use a variety of sources to learn about Climate Change in particular the causes of Climate Change.  We have participated in the #FridaysForFuture climate strikes at our school and watched Greta Thunburg's journey to the US and work in the US to fight climate change.

This week the project was introduced with some exposure to what climate change is and what's causing it. The students watched and discussed the Alliance for Climate Education video, "Our Planet, Our Future". They were also given several other resources to look through. At the end of the week, the students reflected on what they learned by adding to a presentation. We are looking forward to learning and collaborating in the coming weeks. 

Here is our short video about some of the causes of climate change.

Students worked in groups discussing questions such as "What is Climate Change?"; What causes Climate Change?"; What can we do to stop or control Climate Change?" They were given 10+ minutes to discuss and research each question, using prior knowledge as well, and would post their answers on post-its to each poster. 

What is climate change?  What causes it?  Is it a global issue?  How is climate different from weather?  We address all of these questions.

Some ideas on climate change and what we can do. 

Brief look at climate change causes and effects!

We share a class for a brief time each week so we have to work fast! Each student in each of the three classes created a slide to share on the topic of Climate Action - why do we need it?  Many of them added their own audio but the quality was poor. This, therefore is a silent movie representing where the discussion took each of them!  Many of these students were part of last year's project and they could recall almost everything that we did in 2018.

Students from IVO school have been working on different natural disasters that hit our planet as one of the main causes that produce climate change.  This week, they will give you information about how these disasters are caused and where in Argentina they tend to occur.
