Esther Kyazike is a librarian by profession and the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kawempe Youth Centre (KYC) Uganda which is located in Kawempe division, Kampala. KYC, empowers young people with information and soft skills for improved education and livelihoods through Information and education, ICT4Development, Community Outreach and volunteer and internship programs.
Passionate about libraries, children and youth work, I have 20 years’ experience in library and youth work and in March 2012 joined the Uganda Library Campaigners which was part of the Electronic Information For Libraries (EIFL) - Africa Awareness Raising Group (AARG) to work together with the rest of the group to advocate for the development of Public and community libraries in Uganda. I am currently a board member of Uganda Youth Network (UYONET), and Uganda Community Libraries Association (UgCLA). I am also a member of Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA), a member of Library 2.0, a model for a modernized form of library service that reflects a transition within the library world and in the way that services are delivered to users. I am also a member of Bibliotheca Alexandrina Information for Africa (BAIFA) which is an information service that works on promoting research and enhancing the role of information services for African countries.
