Ileana Cotes is the Middle School Principal at Colegio Brader in the Republic of Panama since the year 2007. Before, she was in charge of the Science Department where she would implement necessary curriculum changes and special projects. She has a myriad of experiences working not only as a Science teacher and Principal, but also collaborating as a trainer and facilitator with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. She also provides workshops for Science teachers in Panama and started “Mission Harpy Eagle,” a group that protects the National Bird of Panama. Ileana collaborated with her school taking students to NASA in Cape Canaveral for 15 years participating in the Space Education program that included Science, Math, and Physics. She has also participated in special programs in Harvard University, University of Southern Colorado, University of Kansas and training with the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, DC. In addition, wildlife conservancy is her passion, and she has been awarded for her contributions to world conservancy in Panama and internationally. Actually, besides her professional experience, she rescues and rehabilitates raptors, and provides lectures in Panama and other countries about this critical mission.
